I've discovered a great number of containers have Red Oak seedlings that I didn't plant. Also the vacant lot next door has seedlings that are spaced about 10 ft. apart That part isn't too annoying I can use the seedlings, but the squirrels also dug up hundreds of acorns that I planted and cut down some newly potted seedlings. Last year I had red oaks and red maple small trees that were girdled and some were cut down by squirrels and rabbits. Rat poison hasn't seemed to deter them. ( and they eat it.) Does anyone have experience in controlling these critters? I'm contemplating getting a live trap, but I wonder if they are too smart for that to work long term.
